Story
Delia Balmer, a nurse at the agency, met Sweeney and confessed to killing her ex-girlfriend. He assaulted her before escaping capture. After being arrested for another murder, Balmer rebuilt his life to confront Sweeney seven years later. Based on a true crime story. The bodies were dumped in the canals of Rotterdam (not Amsterdam) and London. You say “Surely it can’t happen that way!” and “How can people be so incompetent?” It’s a true story, however, given what we know from other cases, police failure and the demands of the criminal justice system harm many victims – and that was Delia’s case. Anne Maxwell Martin plays Delia with an extraordinary intensity, rarely making her easy to like: she’s angry, mercurial and unpredictable. Sean Evans is truly terrifying, changing from the shy, quiet, unassuming man Delia meets in a bar to an angry, violent narcissist with a dark, dark past. A very well written, intelligently paced and carefully directed series of short stories.
