Quoted in Film Junk Podcast: Episode 961: In a Violent Nature + TIFF 2024 (2024). I watched Kneecap in advance as part of AMC’s Screen Unseen. I had never heard of it, so it was a fun experience going in completely blind.
And the movie overall has a very cool style
Kneecap is a fun movie with likable characters and beastly music. As a rap fan, I was impressed by the rhymes and HARD beats. The themes of this movie are the ones that stood out the most.
As a Palestinian, all of these themes hit me hard
It does a great job of demonstrating topics like cultural preservation, historical trauma ingrained in your DNA, and resisting your colonizer’s control. The only downside is that I can’t understand a lot of the dialogue. This is due to the accents and slang, as well as references to terms specific to Ireland.
