The series brings the action to the present day
Story
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living by carrying out high-stakes assassinations. He soon meets his match in the form of a tenacious British intelligence officer who tracks him down in a thrilling cat and mouse chase across Europe. The novel The Day of the Jackal is set in 1963 and concerns an assassination attempt on then French President Charles de Gaulle.
I like what they tried to do
A remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973). How can a killer remain anonymous and untraceable in today’s world of security cameras, camera phones and social media, the internet and facial recognition, monitoring communications, digital transactions, etc. etc.
There’s a lot to like in every episode
It’s an imperfect attempt, but please give me the name of any TV series or movie that has achieved this and I’ll watch it immediately. However, the telling of the central story is disrupted by the inclusion of the M16 agent family drama, which feels like filler that was added to fulfill the script’s “rule” formula. I’m skipping these unnecessary scenes to keep the main storylines moving.
don’t mention the bullets
I’m halfway through episode 4 and I appreciate the effort and intention. Also, I love the scarf nod to the original film and the update on the sniper rifle – suspension of disbelief cranked up to 11 that it goes through airport x-ray, not to mention the magic silencer for hypersonic bullets and the inability of anyone to smell a recently used firearm :) Shh… Either way, it’s imperfect, but I’ll watch it to the end and appreciate the effort and interest in the choices they made to tell an engaging story.
And I’ll watch anything with Charles Dance
Finding him in this was a bonus. The new season of “Silo” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our November calendar to find out more!
